You have 2 options depending on your vehicle
The best road is the fully sealed inland road through Mareeba, Mount Molloy, Mount Carbine, Palmer River, Lakefield and on to Cooktown. There are road houses and fuel at Mount Carbine, Palmer River, Lakefield. The trip from Cairns is 330kms and takes 4 – 4.5 hrs depending on your speed.
If you have a 4WD vehicle or off road motorbike you can take the Coastal route along the Bloomfield Track, 32kms of which is unsealed. The trip from Cairns is 245kms and the time it takes depends on conditions but can be less.
Explanation of the 2 routes:
The Bloomfield Track:
A good bus service operates three days per week, on a Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. It travels from Cairns to Mareeba on the Atherton Tableland then north direct to Cooktown.
Leaving Cairns Central Railway Station at 7.00am it arrives at Charlotte Street, Cooktown at 12.15pm and then leaves for the return trip at 1.30pm arriving back in Cairns at 6.00pm.

Monday and Friday: 4 return flights
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: 3 return flights

Our park has a top location in the middle of the Town – walking distance to all amenities and attractions – but still surrounded by parkland and open space on 3 sides and with plenty of shady trees.
